When you have successfully completed your studies you will receive a certificate of achievement in Customer Relations from Focus Awards.

Anybody with a reasonable standard of general education will be able to cope with the academic demands. If you can read and write well enough to complete a job application, and have a good grasp of basic maths (add, subtract and divide) you should have no problems. What will my studies prepare me for?
 

The learning materials and accompanying tasks will help you to develop the necessary knowledge and confidence to successfully complete the tutor marked assignments. How do I send in my work?
 

You email your assignments one at a time for marking. This enables your tutor to properly assess the standard and style of your work for each section, and give you feedback which will be used on your next assignment; a process of continuous improvement. On obtaining feedback and comment you will either move on to the next assignment or review and rework the one you submitted.

If I fail an assignment can I retake it?
 

Yes, your tutor will ask you to resubmit your assignment and give you some pointers as to where you could improve.

What do I receive once I enrol?
 

We will send you ALL the learning materials. This consists of a folder and Study Guide, plus a package of bonus materials and items to enhance your learning experience.

Is there a time limit or any deadlines?
 

Your studies should be completed within 12 months, but can be extended for a small fee if your tutor supports your request. As a rough guide, depending on your circumstances and commitment, you can complete your studies in about 100 study hours. There are no other deadlines to meet.

Is there a word count for my assignments?
 

Although a word count is not given for the tutor marked assignments, it is important that you demonstrate to your tutor that you have fully understood the questions; a comprehensive Study Guide is included with your materials. Many students start slowly at first, but your tutor will give guidance to help and encourage you to improve.

Do I need a computer to complete my studies?

What are customer relations?

Customer relations (or customer service) is working with customer’s queries or complaints but still providing the best possible customer care. This may involve dealing with customers directly, over the phone or via email.

Why did you decide to work in customer relations?

I had always been a friendly person and could make anyone new I met feel welcome. When I was at college I was working part time as a customer sales advisor in a local business where I settled well as I was very good with people. When I had finished at college I decided to go into full time work into customer service as a I was a people person and enjoyed talking and chatting to customers and getting their problems solved.

What tasks are carried out on a daily basis in customer service?

On a daily basis those who work in customer service would be expected to answer customer queries, deal with complaints, take payments, transferring calls and making refunds. All in all a good customer service is needed regardless of the task that is being undertaken. .

What are the entry requirements needed to work in customer service?

To work in customer service you will need to be ‘people friendly’ and be able to speak with any type of character with ease. Employers would more than likely look for standard education such as five GCSE’s A*- C level. If you have any ICT skills this would be an advantage.

What can I expect to earn in customer service?

Salaries can start from £12,500 - £18,000 a year

Managers or team leaders can earn anything from £19,000 - £25,000 a year
