Overview

Prior study is not a prerequisite - you just need a passion for the subject matter!

More and more companies are moving into smaller premises and cutting staff to save costs. The number of people being employed as out workers, and the rise in the number of temporary contracts of employment have opened up an entirely new business opportunity for suitably qualified people.

This excellent brand-new study manual focuses on the knowledge and techniques you will need to "set your stall out” as a Virtual Assistant. If you've been made redundant as a secretary, personal assistant, administrator or HR person, it will give you a golden opportunity to set yourself up to work from home, and earn a full-time income without leaving the house! If you've always wanted to get a "cushy office job" then this could be the answer. Your longest commute could be from your bedroom to your home office or kitchen table! You can even work in your dressing gown if you want to.

A Virtual Assistant delivers business support services such as clerical support, administration, writing correspondence and other communications, filling in returns, filing documents online, taking notes, managing diaries and schedules . . . . almost anything that would otherwise be done by a secretary or Personal Assistant.

The modular method of delivery favoured by other providers fragments the learning process and actively prevents students from moving faster through sections they are more confident with, or taking more time over the deeper concepts that require more thought and comprehension.

When you have successfully completed your studies you will receive a certificate of achievement from Focus Awards.

This is a non-regulated qualification which is endorsed by Focus Awards under the FQP scheme. They are not nationally recognised qualifications; on successful completion of your studies you will receive a Focus Awards Certificate of Achievement and a Diploma from MyDistance Learning College.

Focus Awards is regulated as an Awarding Organisation by Ofqual, the qualification regulators for England, Wales and Northern Ireland.

Non-regulated qualifications endorsed under the FQP scheme are ideal for professionals required to demonstrate commitment to CPD (Continuous Professional Development), and for those wanting to gain specialist knowledge of a particular subject.

Who is this for?

You will receive a thorough grounding in all aspects of massage, from learning the basics of anatomy and skin care through to detailed information on massage techniques, client consultation, and alternative massage techniques. The extensive section on the effects and benefits of massage is one of our students' favourites, and the materials also teach you the necessary business aspects of working both in a salon or for somebody else, and the considerations you need to take into account. In fact, there is little (if anything!) the learning materials leave out; there is no stone left unturned. By the time you complete your studies you'll be raring to go!.

What will I cover?

Your studies will cover the areas of study listed above through detailed exploration of the subject matter. You will also receive tasks and prompts for further personal exploration and research to carry out so that you can gauge how much you have learned. There are plenty of examples to help you but personal research is a prerequisite, so be prepared to use your initiative to fully answer the assignments.

Is it accredited?

This is a non-regulated qualification endorsed by Focus Awards under the FQP scheme.

Although the learning materials are comprehensive and informative, we do expect you to carry out your own investigations. After all, if you are not prepared to do your own research, you should be asking yourself if this is the right subject choice for you!

Your work is not graded; assignments are simply identified as Pass, Fail or Referred. For assignments not passed at first attempt, your tutor will advise on the improvements to be made to obtain a Pass on a reworking. A certificate of achievement will be issued by Focus Awards on successful completion of all the assignments.

Is this a nationally recognised qualification?

No, this is a non-regulated qualification which has been endorsed by Focus Awards under their FQP scheme

What will my studies prepare me for?

The learning materials and accompanying tasks will help you to develop the necessary knowledge and confidence to successfully complete the tutor marked assignments. The tasks are designed to encourage you to apply your knowledge, and help you to develop relevant research and academic writing skills.

How do I send in my work?

You email your assignments one at a time for marking. This enables your tutor to properly assess the standard and style of your work for each section, and give you feedback which will be used on your next assignment; a process of continuous improvement. On obtaining feedback and comment you will either move on to the next assignment or review and rework the one you submitted.

If I fail an assignment can I retake it?

Yes, your tutor will ask you to resubmit your assignment and give you some pointers as to where you could improve.

What do I receive once I enrol?

We will send you ALL the learning materials. This consists of a folder and Study Guide, plus a package of bonus materials and items to enhance your learning experience.

Is there a time limit or any deadlines?

Your studies should be completed within 12 months, but can be extended for a small fee if your tutor supports your request. As a rough guide, depending on your circumstances and commitment, you can complete your studies in about 100 study hours. There are no other deadlines to meet.

Is there a word count for my assignments?

Although a word count is not given for the tutor marked assignments, it is important that you demonstrate to your tutor that you have fully understood the questions; a comprehensive Study Guide is included with your materials. Many students start slowly at first, but your tutor will give guidance to help and encourage you to improve.

Can I cancel if I do not think this is right for me?

Yes, you can return your materials within 7 days in accordance with the terms and conditions on our web site: www.mydistance-learning-college.com.

Do I need a computer to complete my studies?

Yes, you will need access to email and the internet to submit assignments and do research. Most students also find word-processing their assignments is much more convenient than writing by hand.

Are the learning materials paper-based or online?

If you select the hardcopy option above, your materials are paper-based and come in a sturdy folder. Alternatively, start your studies immediately and save £££’s by studying exclusively online, with full access to your learning materials and tutor support, studying has never been easier!

What is a Virtual Assistant?

Virtual assistants work within a business, however they work from home. Their duties can be very similar to an office assistant; some duties may be more difficult to perform. They would focus on emails, phone calls, customer service etc. Virtual assistants work from home and work from anywhere in the world for a company. Becoming a virtual assistant allows you to work at your own pace, allows you to work as and when and to earn as much or little depending when you want to work.

Why did you decide to become a virtual assistant?

My partner had taken up an offer to for a job position abroad, which had meant I had to finish at my current job. I was working as a receptionist for a local business. When we initially moved abroad I was not working and had no intentions of being in employment. However, the newness soon calmed down and I became very bored and wanted to be in work again. It became hard to find employment similar to what I had recently done until someone mentioned working from home.

What day to day activities would be expected from a virtual assistant?

Day to day activities of a virtual assistant are similar to general office duties, such as customer service, answering emails, invoices, answering telephone calls. Some paper work can be more difficult to complete as a virtual assistant, these tasks are usually avoided and done in the actual office.

What qualifications are needed to become a virtual assistant?

Generally, you do not need specific qualifications to become a virtual assistant. However, it can be down to individual employers, some may require GCSE and A-levels. There are courses specifically designed for Virtual Assistants sold my private companies which may be worthwhile taking if you are thinking about becoming a virtual assistant.

How much can I expect to earn in becoming a virtual assistant?

Earning and income in becoming a virtual assistant can vary greatly. This is because virtual assistants can advertise themselves and give an hourly rate at what they work as for businesses to search. OR businesses sometimes advertise for a virtual assistant (a typical job advert) stating the hourly rate they would be working at in employment.
