This course aims to develop the knowledge and skills needed when providing positive care for people with dementia and their families. It builds on the knowledge and skills covered in the Level 3 Dementia qualiﬁcations (although this qualification is not a prerequisite – a Health and Social Care Course at or above Level 3, which covers dementia care, is acceptable).
The Award provides a more in-depth awareness of the process and experience of dementia and is aligned to the National Dementia Strategy.
Anyone who wants to work in Social Care in either local authority or private care environments. It is also suitable for qualiﬁed practitioners who have not covered dementia care in previous qualiﬁcations.
You should be at least 16 years old and have an interest in the subject matter. The Award requires 11 credits.
You will complete written assignments based on the course materials that will be assessed by your tutor.
To complete the Award you do not need to be working as it is a knowledge only qualiﬁcation. If you later progress to take the Certiﬁcate you will need to be working, volunteering or on practical placement as you need to show competence in both knowledge and skills.
