Many of them also result in qualifications on the Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF), which carry credits that can be accumulated towards higher level qualifications.

NCFE are regulated by the Office of the Qualifications and Examinations Regulator (Ofqual) in England, the Department for Children, Education, Lifelong Learning and Skills (DCELLS) in Wales, and the Council for Curriculum Examinations and Assessment (CCEA) in Northern Ireland.

Can anyone do the course?

Anybody with a reasonable standard of general education will be able to cope with the academic demands of the course. If you can read and write well enough to complete a job application, and have a good grasp of basic maths (add, subtract and divide) you should have no problems. The course materials are written in simple everyday language and the answers to your assignments will be completed in the same style.

In addition to the comprehensive course materials provided, you will receive a Study Guide to assist you, and, of course, you will have the support of your tutor.

What’s actually in the course?

The course covers the areas of study listed above through detailed exploration of the subject matter. You will also receive tasks and prompts for further personal exploration, plus research to carry out. This will also help you to keep track of how much you have learned. There are plenty of examples in the course materials, but personal research is expected at this level, so be prepared to use your initiative to fully answer the assignments.

Is the course accredited?

Yes, the course is accredited by NCFE through our IIQ licence. Students will complete all the set assignments using the information the course material provides combined with personal research. To help you get to this stage, there are also a number of self-assessment exercises for each section.

Although the course is comprehensive and informative, we do expect you to carry out your own investigations. After all, if you are not prepared to do your own research, you should be asking yourself if this is the right subject choice for you!

What will I get from the course materials?

The course materials and accompanying tasks will help you to develop the necessary knowledge and confidence to successfully complete the tutor marked assignments. The tasks are designed to encourage you to apply your knowledge, and help you to develop relevant research and academic writing skills.

What level is the course at?

The Learning outcomes for the Interior Design Course course have been benchmarked at Level 3, using Ofqual’s Qualification and Credit Framework (QCF). Your work is not graded; assignments are simply identified as Pass or Referred. For assignments not passed at first attempt, your tutor will advise on any necessary improvements to be made to obtain a Pass on reworking.

Certificates will be issued by NCFE on successful completion of all the assignments.

How do I send in my work?

You submit your assignments one at a time for marking through our iLearn it Easy online portal. This enables your tutor to properly assess the standard and style of your work for each section, and give you feedback which will be used on your next assignment; a process of continuous improvement. On obtaining feedback and comment you will either move on to the next assignment or review or rework the one you submitted.

What happens if I fail an assignment?

Don't worry, your tutor give you some pointers as to where you could improve, and will ask you to resubmit your assignment once you have reworked it.

What do I receive when I order the course?

We will send you ALL the course materials. This consists of a folder and Study Guide, plus a package of bonus materials and items to enhance your learning experience.

Is there a time limit or any deadlines?

The course should be completed within 12 months, but can be extended for a small fee if you require more time. As a rough guide, depending on your circumstances and commitment, the course can be completed in about 100 study hours. There are no other deadlines to meet.

Is there a word count for my assignments?

There are generally no word counts given for the tutor marked assignments, but it is important that you demonstrate to your tutor that you have fully understood the questions; a comprehensive Study Guide is included with the course. Many students start slowly at first, particularly if it's some time since they carried out any study, but your tutor will give guidance to help and encourage you to improve.

Will the course help me get a job?

NCFE, the awarding body, is a highly respected organisation that imposes strict standards on its centres. Employers or further education providers should accept an NCFE certificate.

What if I don’t like the course? Can I send it back?

Yes, if you are not happy with the course and feel it is not for you, you can return it within 7 days in accordance with the terms and conditions on our web site: www.mydistance-learning-college.com .

What is interior designing?

Interior design requires creativity and style. Interior designers would work closely with clients in order to create their dream house interior or plan the interior designs for a new build from scratch.

Why did you decide to become an interior designer?

At school I was only ever any good at art and design or subjects that allowed me to be creative. I went on to take art and design as an A-Level in which I received an A for. I had to look at my options career wise to ensure I could work in a job where it allowed me to show my creative side. I was still unsure so I decided to take art and design at university and study this at degree level. In my second year of university it was my tutor who suggested interior design to think about as a career. This was something that I did actually then decide to take up on after graduating at university. I was lucky with employment, a family friend was in the process of building a plot of new houses. He asked me to build up a few different designs for the houses, which thankfully he accepted.

What does an interior designer do on a day to day basis?

Interior designers have to meet new clients or have meetings with existing clients to discuss their plans of a building, create designs and develop new designs to show to clients. Agreements would need to be made on costs, budgets and deadlines. Advice would need to be given to clients on colour schemes, fabrics and different materials to be used.

What are the entry requirements to work in interior design?

You would need to have a degree in interior design or art/design related.

What can I expect to earn as an interior designer?

Starting salaries from around £18,000 - £22,000 a year

Experienced designers can earn around £24,000 - £40,000 a year
