Course Overview

Our personalities and characters underpin all of our behaviours. They influence our relationships with others, and ourselves and of course in the context of wider society. If you want to understand what makes people "tick” then, again, this is the course for you.

Our outstanding Educational Psychology Course has been specially written to enable anyone interested in learning about the use of psychological principles to understand the behaviour of others, and the particular value of psychology in the learning environment. The course is designed to be studied from home by distance learning, at your own pace and in your own time. You will be introduced to the different forms of emotional expression, and the nature of sensation and perception. If you have an interest in memory, and the way your brain works, you will be completely absorbed by the course content.

Check out the individual unit titles by clicking on the "Course Outline" tab above, and you will discover how to understand the theories and applications of the learning process, the principles of assessing educational performance how to understand the factors, which determine student motivation, and learn strategies for dealing with disruptive behaviour.

By the time you complete the course, you will also be able to demonstrate your understanding of the individual differences in educational performance, appreciate and understand the nature of special education needs, and be able to design the layout of educational environments to maximise learning potential. It's all here, in sufficient detail to give you a real grounding in Educational Psychology.

Once you have this certification you will be able to further enhance your employability in the sector, industry or area of interest by continuing your studies to the next level if you wish.

They recognise that the student has gained a good knowledge and understanding of a particular subject area, which is appropriate for many job roles. Many of them also result in qualifications on the Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF), which carry credits that can be accumulated towards higher level qualifications.

NCFE are regulated by the Office of the Qualifications and Examinations Regulator (Ofqual) in England, the Department for Children, Education, Lifelong Learning and Skills (DCELLS) in Wales, and the Council for Curriculum Examinations and Assessment (CCEA) in Northern Ireland.

Before enrolling on a course, students should make sure that they are following a course of study that results in formal recognition of their knowledge and skills by a reputable awarding body such as NCFE.

Can anyone do the course?

Anybody with a reasonable standard of general education will be able to cope with the academic demands of the course. If you can read and write well enough to complete a job application, and have a good grasp of basic maths (add, subtract and divide) you should have no problems. The course materials are written in simple everyday language and the answers to your assignments will be completed in the same style.

In addition to the comprehensive course materials provided, you will receive a Study Guide to assist you, and, of course, you will have the support of your tutor.

What’s actually in the course?

The course covers the areas of study listed above through detailed exploration of the subject matter. You will also receive tasks and prompts for further personal exploration, plus research to carry out. This will also help you to keep track of how much you have learned. There are plenty of examples in the course materials, but personal research is expected at this level, so be prepared to use your initiative to fully answer the assignments.

Is the course accredited?

This course has been accredited by My Distance Learning College Ltd, which has been approved as an NCFE I IQ (Investing in Quality) Centre to give full recognition to courses. Successful students will be awarded a certificate of achievement by NCFE at the end of their course.

The measurable learning outcomes of the course have been benchmarked, using Ofqual Qualification and Credits Framework (QCF) descriptors, as Level 3. The course content and delivery have been specifically designed to meet the needs of students preferring to learn from home using distance learning methods.

What will I get from the course materials?

The course materials and accompanying tasks will help you to develop the necessary knowledge and confidence to successfully complete the tutor marked assignments. The tasks are designed to encourage you to apply your knowledge, and help you to develop relevant research and academic writing skills.

What level is the course at?

The Learning outcomes for the Educational Psychology course have been benchmarked at Level 3, using Ofqual’s Qualification and Credit Framework (QCF). Your work is not graded; assignments are simply identified as Pass or Referred. For assignments not passed at first attempt, your tutor will advise on any necessary improvements to be made to obtain a Pass on reworking.

Certificates will be issued by NCFE on successful completion of all the assignments.

How do I send in my work?

You submit your assignments one at a time for marking through our iLearn it Easy online portal. This enables your tutor to properly assess the standard and style of your work for each section, and give you feedback which will be used on your next assignment; a process of continuous improvement. On obtaining feedback and comment you will either move on to the next assignment or review or rework the one you submitted.

What happens if I fail an assignment?

Don't worry, your tutor give you some pointers as to where you could improve, and will ask you to resubmit your assignment once you have reworked it.

The course should be completed within 12 months, but can be extended for a small fee if you require more time. As a rough guide, depending on your circumstances and commitment, the course can be completed in about 100 study hours. There are no other deadlines to meet.

Is there a word count for my assignments?

There are generally no word counts given for the tutor marked assignments, but it is important that you demonstrate to your tutor that you have fully understood the questions; a comprehensive Study Guide is included with the course. Many students start slowly at first, particularly if it's some time since they carried out any study, but your tutor will give guidance to help and encourage you to improve.

Will the course help me get a job?
